United is offering a bonus of up to 30% when you convert hotel reward points to United MileagePlus miles. You can earn up to a maximum of 25,000 bonus miles with this promotion.
To earn the bonus miles, you need to first register for the promotion.
You must register and convert by October 31, 2024. It’s best to keep a few days buffer in case there is a delay in crediting the miles.
The bonus will depend on the number of miles converted.
Miles | Bonus |
---|---|
Less than 20K miles earned | 20% bonus miles |
20K to 40K miles earned | 25% bonus miles |
Over 40K miles earned | 30% bonus miles |
United Conversion Partners (Hotels).
You can transfer your reward points from the following hotel loyalty programs to your United MileagePlus account.
Hotel Program | Transfer Ratio | Remarks |
---|---|---|
Marriott Bonvoy | 3 points = 1 United mile | 10,000 bonus miles for every 60,000 points you convert. |
Marriott Vacation Club | 500 Vacation Club Points = 8,000 United miles | Additional points can be converted in increments of 250 Vacation Club Points for 4,000 miles. |
Accor ALL | 2000 points = 1000 United miles | |
Hilton Honors | 10,000 points = 1000 United miles | Not a typo. It is 1k miles for 10k points. |
IHG One Rewards | 10,000 points = 2000 United miles | |
World of Hyatt | 2.5 points = 1 United mile | 5,000-mile bonus when you convert 50,000 points into 20,000 miles |
Choice Priveleges | 5,000 points = 1000 United miles | |
Wyndham Rewards | 6,000 points = 1200 United miles | |
Shangri-La Circle | 2500 points = 2500 United miles |
Note that the transfer ratios mentioned above are standard ratios. The bonus miles for the registered members would be additional to the standard miles earned.
Converting Marriott Bonvoy points to United MileagePlus Miles.
Even with the bonus points, the transfer ratios are generally unfavorable for most hotel programs. The only viable option is Marriott Bonvoy.
Marriott offers a bonus of 10,000 United miles when you transfer 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points. With an additional 30% bonus from this promotion, it becomes a worthwhile deal.
For instance, you can receive 72,000 United miles by transferring 120,000 Marriott Bonvoy points:
- Standard miles at a 3:1 ratio — 40,000 miles
- Marriott Bonus — 20,000 miles
- United Promotion Bonus (30%) — 12,000 miles
Note that you won’t earn promotional miles from United on the 10,000 bonus miles offered by Marriott. I verified this last year.
Consider Devaluation.
When it comes to miles and reward points, devaluation is the only constant. And United miles are no exception.
Just last year, United miles were devalued shortly after the 30% bonus miles promotion concluded. Therefore, unless you plan to use United Miles soon, it might not be a good idea to transfer them.
Bottom Line.
United is offering a bonus of up to 30% miles when you convert your hotel reward points into United miles. Converting Marriott points could be beneficial, but most other conversions may not be worthwhile.
Don’t forget to register for the promotion before transferring your hotel reward points.
