There can be several reasons why one would want to transfer points from one Marriott Bonvoy account to another. Especially among family members.
Some common reasons can be falling short by a few points to make a booking. Or wanting to book from an account with higher elite status. Or transferring points to your spouse when he or she is traveling alone and therefore can’t use points from your account.
Transferring points is an excellent no-cost solution in such cases.
How to transfer Marriott Bonvoy points online?
Marriott has just launched it’s new online transfer tool to help move Marriott points between accounts.
The process is as simple as it gets. All you need to do is login to the donor’s account, fill a simple form, agree to terms, submit, and wait for the points to arrive.
You can transfer Marriott points online here.
Points transfer is instant in most cases. Even though, Marriott asks you to wait for an hour for them to be credited.
How many Marriott points can you transfer in a year?
Marriott allows a transfer of up to 100,000 points to other Marriott accounts in a year. You can transfer all the points to one account or send a few to several accounts.
However, you can’t transfer out more than 100,000 total Marriott Bonvoy points from one account in a year.
As a recipient, you can receive up to 500,000 points every year. This can be from multiple accounts or single. Not to forget that one person can’t transfer out more than 100,000 points.
Transfers are free
The good part about transferring points is that Marriott doesn’t charge you anything for it.
Not many programs allow points transfer between accounts. And a few that do, are not so generous with transfer fees.
It was possible to transfer points earlier as well
Even though the online transfer tool is new, it was always possible to transfer points from one Marriott Bonvoy account to another.
One had to call customer support and request for a transfer. Needless to say, it wasn’t ideal. Calling for such things is far too outdated now.
Thankfully, Marriott has realized that. Moving this process online should help save them some valuable human resources as well.
